[ FBI Takes $400K ]

I'm sorry, do we live in Iran right now?

Here's an article about an Ohio family who had $400,000 of their life savings confiscated when authorities discovered a "small amount of marijuana" in their home.

This, according to the US Treasury, is called a civil forfeiture and is "intended to confiscate property used or acquired in violation of the law." But the family didn't face possession charges, so how was it possible for authorities to simply bundle up the money and take it away?

Well, apparently, "the government can confiscate money or property without proving that a person is guilty."
